During this time of social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, organizations such as The Pledge of the Computing Professional are making exceptions to their usual protocol with respect to upcoming induction ceremonies. In its relatively brief history, The Pledge has been very flexible on the format of the ceremony. What is important is that each inductee:
- wants to participate in the ceremony (that is, it is not a requirement),
- takes the Pledge through orally reciting the Oath,
- signs their Pledge certificate, and
- receives the pin that is emblematic of the Pledge.
Pledge Nodes (AKA chapters) are free to pursue whatever accommodations best fit their particular situation, be it interactive video conferencing replacing the traditional ceremony, deferral to a time close to when an institution’s graduation ceremony has been rescheduled, or any other reasonable course of action. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
